Dentistry Dr. Garg Clinic Sterilization

Dr. Garg Clinic

We follow all the disinfection and sterilization procedures needed for infection control. These are used for each and every patient to prevent the transmission of the AIDS virus and other infectious diseases. All our staff involved in patient care use appropriate protective garb such as gloves, and masks. After each patient visit, the gloves are discarded, hands are washed and a new pair of gloves is used for the next patient.

We have introduced individualized sterile packs that contain instruments, gauze, cotton balls and suction devices (photograph). Our patients are reassured when a new pack of supplies is opened in front of them prior to treatment. All needles and syringes used in our centre are disposable. The glasses used for rinsing and towels used as aprons for the patients are disposable too. Dental instruments are cleaned and sterilized at very high temperatures after each time they are used on a patient.

The sterilization methods used in our centre are: autoclaving (steam under pressure), dry heat oven, chemical vapors (commonly called a chemiclave). These measures are carried out rigorously and consistently and demonstrate our commitment to your safety.

In health care, dentistry has long been at the forefront of the development of new products and procedures that reduce the potential for disease transmission. Much of this is achieved through sterilization. Sterilization is the destruction of all living micro-organisms, including spores (reproductive bodies) of the hardiest bacteria and fungi. Many of the instruments used in dentistry need to be sterilized. The instruments that contact teeth in drilling and polishing are either sterilized or discarded between patients. All dental offices have extra sets of instruments which allows for proper sterilization time.

We are now using an autolclaving machine, a dental sterilizer that processes instruments faster and more effectively than ever before. In autoclaving, instruments (which are first cleaned, dried, and placed in a special steam-penetrable wrap), are subjected to pressurized steam for 15 to 20 minutes. The instruments are then left in their protective packaging until they are needed.

Hygiene

Hygiene of the water circulating inside the dental unit is very important in order to avoid the involuntary transfer of infection to patients. Water quality differs greatly from country to country, and can very greatly within the same country. Microbial contamination can have two sources: anterograde for the load present in system water, retrograde through reaspiration in side the pipes of micro-organisms present in the patient's oral cavity. To attempt to efficiently protect patients all over the world, Anthos has fitted two disinfection systems for the water used in the patient's oral cavity.

A. O.D.R. Anti Retraction Re-aspiration of fluids in the outfeed represents a source of contamination: micro-organisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi) can then travel inside the dental unit water pipes and contaminate the entire machine. To avoid re-aspiration after use, each dynamic instrument has a device which blocks re-aspiration, and emits an air jet in the opposite direction to eliminate the last drop when work session is finished.

B. U.V. System An ultra-violet lamp positioned at the system water infeed allows elimination of 99.99% of the microbial content originating in the system. This operation is used for water used for dynamic instruments and the cup.
